Grocery shopping, Take 2

Went grocery shopping yesterday. Decided to try something new, and went to Trader Joe’s. A friend of mine at work is a big fan, and raves about their pre-prepared dishes. I’m a staunch enemy of Whole Foods so I was a little leery but I was actually presently surprised. My grand total came to $76.55, which is about $2 more than I spent at Kroger last time, though this time I think I got more “food” food. I got lots of meat: chicken, beef, fish, and pasta, and other things that I can cook large servings of and then freeze. I also got a little wine for fun.

At first, I was upset because I thought I could get in and out for under $50, but when you consider that I bought enough food to last at least two weeks, it sounds about right. I’m definitely just going to start paying myself my “allowance” on a biweekly schedule instead of weekly, it only makes sense.

Not sure if I’m going to stick with Trader Joe’s or not. The cheap wine is great of course (!) and it would definitely help me eat healthier, but I did long for just a bit of junk food or “normal stuff.” Plus, after I move, it won’t be that convenient to where I live, though it’s not far from work, so I could always do post-work grocery shopping. Still debating.

  • The potato chips at Trader Joes are awesome. So are their caramel cashew cookies. The chocolate covered raisins are the best I’ve had. And I always pick up a bag of low salt roasted almonds, too.

Mmm, just talking about all that snack food is making me hungry!
